Staffing
We said a fond farewell to Mrs Pippa Jackson, who left our ELC after a decade in post. The boys and girls gave her a great send off on Friday. We were very sad to see her go after her commitment to our school and community. We wish her luck in her new role. Mrs Wingate has extended her working hours in ELC to full time.
Mrs Lawson is recovering from an operation and home at the moment. We are being kept up to date with her recovery and hope to see her back at school soon.
We welcome Miss Eve Macdonald to school. Miss Macdonald is a PGDE student who has been working in our Primary 7a class with Mrs Butler. We also welcome back Miss Olivia Brunton, previously a student with us, who has returned to school to complete some Additional Needs Assistant hours with us on a Friday until the end of the school year. We would also like to introduce Mrs Sarah Howie to our Additional Needs Assistant Team. Mrs Howie will be joining us on Wednesdays until the end of term and we look forward to working with her. I know you will all make the new members of our team feel very welcome.
Raising Attainment & Achievement
Our Primary 1, 4 & 7 pupils have all now completed their Scottish National Standardised Assessments in Reading, Writing & Maths.
We are delighted to share that the focus on writing and maths this year, along with pupil determination and focus has led to fantastic results with over 95% of pupils meeting or exceeding the national expectation. Thank you to all teachers and pupils for their hard work on this.
Assemblies
We enjoyed a fabulous Easter Service at St Andrew’s Church on 4th April. Huge congratulations to our Primary 4 year group, who showed confidence and talent.
This term our Building Resilience Focus is Challenge your Mindset. Please look out for the Home Learning and key messages related to this in the Friday Round Up.
We will also have assemblies focused on Walk to School Week and presented by our Junior Road Safety Officers (JRSOs), a Christian RO assembly from Rev. Nick Bowry on 29th May and our annual awards assembly, where we celebrate our learners of excellence and give out our Archie Hall Kindness Award and our Heriot Watt Learner of Excellence Cup.
This term hand over many of our assemblies to pupil voice and leadership with our Primary 1 year group assembly, our final OPaL group assembly of the year, Our West Linton’s Got Talent extravaganza and of course our Primary 7 Leavers Assembly.
We will be honoured this year to welcome our Whipman Andy Buchan and his Lass Kirsten Buchan to school on 5th June and again to help us judge our West Linton’s Got Talent assembly. We are delighted that for the third year in a row, the Whipman and Lass are parents at West Linton Primary School. We wish them a safe and enjoyable Whipman, when it comes.
