Area

17th April 2024

In Primary 6 we have been learning about area. We explored how to find the area of compound shapes in the context of being a carpet fitter or joiner. In our groups we had to find the area of the rooms of a house and make a plan of this on the floor with masking tape. We had to carefully measure out each side and use different operations to find the missing sides and calculate the area of each room.

Our next task was to choose flooring for each room and calculate the cost. We found out that the costs were not very realistic! Flooring a whole house cost us between £300 and £400 pounds!
