Our first week back has welcomed visitors in and seen pupils and staff out and about! Every class embarked on their novel study to start the term – the 5s and 6s were lucky enough to have the author of their novel – Lari Don – come along! Her session was hugely engaging for pupils and staff alike and I’m sure inspired our pupils and brought even more meaning and connection to their novel Spellbound. Sandra Van Aswegen (Abraham and Isobel’s mum) visited the newly formed P7 Ministers for Masterchefs on Wednesday to give them a training session. This is in preparation for them embarking upon supporting “Mrs V” deliver cooking sessions to all pupils through a rolling programme. Mrs V is a Home Economics teacher and we are really lucky to have her skills and knowledge this year to enhance our curriculum. Our final visitor was PC Furness, our Community Police Officer who delivered a presentation to P7 pupils on internet safety and the use of social media. Smart phones and computers are a part of our life and it is vital that schools and parents work in partnership to educate and encourage responsible use of social media and the internet.

Our P4 pupils travelled to Peebles High School for a Rugby Festival, sharing the bus with P7 pupils who were participating in a Hockey Festival. Great sporting attitude and effort was shown by all and the pupils enjoyed the experience. Once again we were lucky to have the support of a group of parents to allow us to take so many children along to enjoy the event. Our ELCC pupils enjoyed getting out and about in the community during their walk around the village on Friday afternoon and finally four of our P6 and five of our P7 pupils travelled further afield today (Saturday) to the Scottish Road Relay Championships in Grangemouth. The runners all put in a huge effort, with the P6 boys only 17 seconds away from the podium, not bad after three miles. Each one of them took a full minute off the times they had recorded previously and ran a sub 6 minute mile with their combined time being 16 minutes exactly. Well done to each of our pupils who represented their school with pride and in style!

Enjoy your weekend!
