A fantastic week for West Linton with the very positive letter following our recent re-inspection visit being issued to our families and school community. The letter recognises major improvements and new developments at the school and gives us a platform from which we will continue to strive towards excellence.

Our Daily Mile initiative began and, despite the weather, most pupils and staff have walked or run 5 miles further this week than they perhaps would have otherwise done! I have enjoyed joining classes for some of the walks and listening in to the conversations and sometimes singing of the pupils as they go!

Our Maths & Numeracy Focus continued with sessions for pupils, staff and parents from Tom Renwick around the Numeracy Map. The evening presentation was particularly well attended and the feedback from parents was excellent including – “Fabulous session – extremely accessible and helpful – loads to take home and try!” “This was a brilliant session – the simplest things are the best! I learned so much – will be hugely useful and thank you for all the great, very practical tips”.

West Linton staff began their visits to Priorsford Primary and we welcomed teachers from Priorsford to our school. These visits are proving very popular with our teachers and will be the focus for our next joint twilight meeting in November.

Our netball team took part in their first tournament of the year on Thursday evening. Mr Elliott reported that the team showed excellent sportsmanship and competed very well. Our thanks to Mr Wells who runs the team and Mrs Dykes for transporting and supporting the girls during the tournament.

Our week was rounded off with two assemblies hosted by P4 and P4/5 – the first a very well attended assembly for the parents and extended families of both classes and the second to the whole school. The assembly was fantastic and showcased all of the learning, knowledge and understanding about Sound and Light the pupils have gained. Well done P4 and P4/5!

The week is not quite yet at a close – and I am looking forward to the Hallowe’en Party tonight and trying to recognise everyone in disguise!

Next week our classes will be mixing to share their achievements homework to help to widen pupils understanding of the great breadth the word achievement covers. The Ministers for Technology begin their ICT club and the Flu Vaccination takes place on Thursday and Friday.
